Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, virtually all events have been cancelled. Usually not a situation to base a game on, and yet, we have Devolverland Expo. It’s published by Devolver Digital, and it’s as mad as it sounds, as you’d expect from the publisher.
The premise is also about as in-your-face as it can get. Devolverland Expo is a “marketing simulator” set in an abandoned convention centre. And the gameplay involves having you break in and retrieving trailers and gameplay demos, while avoiding security measures.
Being the grounds for a cancelled Devolver Digital expo, the trailers and demos are naturally other games by the publisher. So expect to see stuff from Shadow Warrior 3 to be in this. But to do it in such an interactive way – and to unashamedly call it a marketing simulator – is certainly a unique way to do things.
If you have 7GB of drive space, then this could be a gag that’s worth your time. With physical events not possible, this year’s E3 is essentially all video streams that are the new normal. But for those who still want the experience of going to a convention hall, this may be the closest one can get. Devolverland Expo is free to download on Steam.
