Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced earlier today that Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) will be offering a 20-percent discount on domestic flights to all teachers, lecturers and students. He hopes that this special offer could enable the eligible individuals to return to their respective campuses, as most institutions of higher education are expected to reopen soon.
The minister said that the exclusive discount will be applied for flights booked from 9 July to 10 August 2020 for trips between 10 July to 30 November this year. Teachers and lecturers will be provided with a promo code from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education soon, which is used to redeem the 20-percent discount via the Malaysia Airlines’ website.
On the other hand, students are required to sign up for a membership in the MH Explorer programme via the website in order to enjoy the same discount. He added that they are eligible to redeem it up to Nov 30 or until their membership expires.
The agreement for this offer was reached during a meeting with MAB chief executive officer Izham Ismail, explained Ismail Sabri. The meeting also oversaw discussion regarding issues of fare increase after domestic air travel had been allowed to continue during the implementation of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) in Malaysia.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Malaysia Airlines management for their willingness to offer the discount,” said Ismail Sabri. “It is hoped that other airlines would follow suit in a bid to reduce air ticket price.”
