Back in the early days of the Movement Control Order (MCO), the government announced that subscribers to local telcos will be getting free 1GB of mobile data. At the time, this free data is only valid from 8AM to 6PM of any day. Now, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced that this free data’s validity will be extended to the entire day.
As detailed on its Facebook page, the MCMC says this extension of free data validity starts today, 1 July 2020. And it will last all the way to the end of the year, 31 December 2020. This will of course be subject to availability by individual telcos.
Digi has announced on Twitter and its own site confirming the extension of the 1GB of free data validity. Celcom and U Mobile have also made their announcements on their respective websites. Though as before, the free data allocation is only for education and work use. At the time of writing, Maxis has yet of issue an official announcement updating its free 1GB data details.

This is good news for those working or learning from home, as it’s not something restricted to office hours anymore. For specific details on what is and isn’t compatible with the free 1GB of data, and the steps you have to take to claim them, you’ll have to check with your respective service providers.
