Spotify is said to roll out its new real-time lyrics feature in 26 countries, according to TechCrunch. The site reported that the feature will be made available on the music streaming platform at 10am ET (10pm local time) in India, Latin America, and Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia.
This update will offer real-time lyrics in the language in which songs are sung, and is accessible by tapping the new “Lyrics” button which is located at the bottom of the “Now Playing” screen. The report added that the new feature is developed in-house, unlike Spotify’s previous attempts where it worked with Musixmatch and later Genius to include lyrics to its platform.
The real-time lyrics feature was initially announced by the streaming platform in November of last year, and had undergone testing only in select markets. It is said that the move is to compete directly with Apple Music, who have teamed up with Genius to provide full lyrics to its service since 2018.
Spotify have confirmed with TechCrunch that the feature will indeed go live later tonight, but have yet to officially announce it themselves.
