Microsoft has released a tool called Windows File Recovery. As the name suggests, this can be useful if you accidentally got rid of a file you didn’t mean to. And yes, this is more than just paying the Recycle Bin a visit.
The tool can be used to recover a variety of file types from virtually any storage medium. On the Microsoft Store page, the company says the tool can help you recover a variety of image and video file types from NTFS, FAT, exFAT, and ReFS file systems.
The Windows File Recovery is probably best when used with an NTFS file system. You can use it to even recover files from a disk that has been formatted or even corrupted. For the other file systems, you can recover specific file types, but will also take longer to do so.
Microsoft already allows you to recover documents you deleted using a File History feature called Previous Versions. That being said, this feature is turned off by default. So if you’ve lost files before turning this on, then this new tool may be what you need to get what may be otherwise lost forever.
