YouTube has announced that it is testing a new multi-segment video feature, which allows creators to upload short-form clips onto its platform. The new feature has been rolled out to a select group of creators on Android and iOS devices for testing and feedback.
According to Google, those with access to the test will see a “create new video” option in the mobile upload flow. They can then tap or hold the record button to capture a clip, with a recording limit of 15 seconds each.
As you’d have probably guessed by now, this new format is YouTube’s answer to rival short-form content platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. It definitely took the Google subsidiary a while, but it appears that the streaming platform is readying up to get a slice of that pie.
YouTube said that it will roll out this new feature on a larger scale if the pilot program gains enough positive feedback. It is not known if the platform plans to include this as a subsection ala Facebook/Instagram Stories, or integrated as part of its regular content in the future.
