Earlier in the year, ASUS showed off its Zephyrus G14 after our in-depth review of the machine last month, it’s earned a place on our list as one of the best and most functional gaming laptops we’ve ever used this year. Recently, ASUS informed us that it will be launching the highest-tier variant of the device on 29 June.
Price-wise, the top-tier Zephyrus G14 will retail at an SRP of RM7699 and in Moonlight White, but there is a catch. As per ASUS’ explanation, the top-tier model will still ship out with the same innards as the model with reviewed. This includes AMD’s breathtaking Ryzen 9 4900HS mobile processor, 16GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM, a 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q.
Unfortunately, the 14-inch display on this laptop variant will only be available with a WQHD (2560 x 1440) native resolution that in turn only has a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. It’s a odd decision, considering that one of the major highlights of the Zephyrus G14 was its 120Hz Full HD display, which we were led to believe was an option for consumers, regardless of the choice of CPU or GPU.
On that note, ASUS did inform us that the 120Hz Full HD option is still on the table, but only for the lower-tier versions of the Zephyrus G14 that the brand will only announce on 29 June. That said, it’s hard to think that ASUS’ decision to not make the 120Hz Full HD panel a legitimate option for its top-of-the-line variant. Especially since their panels – regardless of resolution – are Pantone validated with a 100% sRGB colour accuracy.
