Senior Minister for Security Cluster, Ismail Sabri Yaakob today has announced that cinemas in Malaysia are allowed to be operational once again starting from 1 July 2020, after being closed throughout the Movement Control Order. This permission has also been extended to theatre and live performances which can only take place in enclosed venues.
In its announcement, Minister Ismail pointed out that cinemas and live performance venues need to adhere to strict standard operation procedures (SOPs). For example, the maximum amount of people that are permitted to be inside a cinema hall or live performance venue at a time is limited to 250 individuals.
Of course, this is subjected to the size of the respective halls and venues. The operators of cinema and live performance venues must consider the standard 1-meter social distance gap in their measurements.
The common SOPs such as temperature check, face mask and hand sanitizers need to be implemented by these operators as well. Not to forget, they also need to put up social distancing markers as well.
