Rapid Bus today has announced that users can now check out real-time movements of Rapid KL buses via Google Maps. Made possible through a collaboration with Google, this capability also covers other buses that are operated by the Prasarana subsidiary such as Go KL and LRT feeder buses as well as selected Smart Selangor buses
Before this, users are only able to know the real-time location of buses by contacting Rapid KL directly. More than 60% of inquiries that the company received came from users that were waiting for their buses and want to know their locations or frequencies.
To know whether you are looking at an actual real-time update or otherwise, pay attention to the colour of the timing underneath the location of your bus stop. If it is in green, that means the bus is on schedule while red means it is delayed.
Through the real-time updates, you can even see the bus moves inside the route map which you can access by tapping on the bus number shown in the app. However, if the timing is shown in black, you are looking at the generic schedule and not real-time updates.
In its announcement today, Rapid Bus is also planning to extend this capability to MRT feeder buses together with Rapid Penang and Rapid Kuantan buses in future. That being said, the company didn’t provide any rollout timeline for them though.
