ORIGINAL STORY (2:16 PM):
These days, a product getting a special collaboration with a series from popular culture is quite the common sight. But with the Xiaomi Mi Band 5, the Chinese company is taking things to another level. The band comes with at least four tie-ins with pop culture.
According to a post on Weibo, the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 has collaborations with Neon Genesis Evangelion, Detective Conan, Hatsune Miku and, get this, Spongebob Squarepants. And it’s not just the colour of the band that changes with these tie-ins either. Each looks to have their own special set of themes to go along with them. This means a different look and layout to the clock and step counter display, among other things.
And it’s not limited to these four franchises as well. Agatha Tang, Global Product PR Manager of Xiaomi, also shared on Twitter an image that shows that there are other collaborations. One looks to be with the Yokai Watch franchise.

It’s certainly nice to see a single product featuring tie-ins with so many different entertainment franchises. But judging from collaborations from other brands, this will all likely be stuff that’s exclusive to the Chinese market. The launch event of the Xiaomi Mi band 5 itself is set to take place a little later today.
