Cross-platform play, or just crossplay, is a feature that’s for some reason still a rare thing for video games. Fortunately, Need For Speed Heat is a new name that we can add to that extremely short list. Starting today, the game will support crossplay between PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The feature is being added via an update.
That being said, it’s not a feature that is enabled by default. Once you’ve gotten the update, you’ll have to opt in to play with players with each platform. If you have friends playing on a platform that’s different from yours and they’ve also opted in, you’ll be able to find them from the Find Friends menu.
Developer Criterion Games made the announcement via a blog post, saying NFS Heat is the first EA title to support the feature. Company general manager Matt Webster says that gaming platforms shouldn’t be a barrier that stops people from playing with their friends. It’s nice, albeit obvious sentiment, but it’s nice to see that the demand for crossplay is being answered.
Webster also says that this is the final update for Need For Speed Heat, which was first launched back in November 2019. It is also among the EA titles that recently made its way to Steam.
