To help boost Malaysia’s economy which has been heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has announced a long list of benefits under the new Pelan Jana Semula Ekonomi Negara (PENJANA). Among them is the free e-wallet credit that is also aimed to promote contactless payment method that is becoming a new norm.
According to the announcement by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the initiative which is called ePENJANA will provide RM 50 e-wallet credit to Malaysians that are aged 18 years and above with annual income of less than RM 100,000.
Alongside the credit, they will also receive additional discount vouchers and cashback worth RM 50. While all these benefits will be delivered to consumers this coming July, PM Muhyiddin didn’t provide the list of e-wallet providers that will be involved in ePENJANA.
In many ways, ePENJANA is a reminiscence of the e-Tunai Rakyat program that took place earlier this year under the Belanjawan 2020’s provision. Hence, it seems quite possible that the same e-wallet services could be picked up once again for ePENJANA but nevertheless, let’s wait for further clarifications from the government that should take place very soon.
