Sony WH-1000XM4 Details Leak; Features Similar Battery Life, Improved Voice-Calling

With the success of Sony’s WH-1000XM3, there’s growing anticipation for the brand’s upcoming WH-1000XM4 and what updated features it brings with it. Thanks to a features listing of the device that leaked, we now have an idea over what to expect from the next-generation ANC wireless headphones.

The listing of the WH-1000XM4’s features was first discovered on Walmart’s website in the US and basically lays out all the features of the wireless headphones. Surprisingly, the details point to a nearly identical design and build to the current WH-1000XM3, save for some minor updates.

This includes the same Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology, USB-C fast-charging,  LDAC support, and touchpad controls on the earcups. As for what’s new, the WH-1000XM4 now seemingly has the ability to be connected to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. Additionally, the headphones also have a new “Precise Voice Pickup Technology” that Sony promises will enhance voice calls via the five built-in microphones.

There’s also a new Adaptive Sound Control feature that seems to allow users of the WH-1000XM4 to preset different profiles through Sony’s Connect app. Last but not least, the headphones will also be receiving a new version of Sony’s DSEE upscaling technology, dubbed DSEE Extreme.

As for the battery life, it appears that that particular segment remains unchanged too; like the WH-1000XM3, the WH-1000XM4 will reportedly have the same 30-hour battery life, which isn’t actually a bad thing.

Price-wise, the Sony WH-1000XM4 are listed at US$348 (~RM1483) on the Walmart website, which is more or less the same price as the WH-1000XM3 when it launched in Malaysia. While not confirmed, it does seem to suggest that Sony may end up selling its next-generation ANC headphones at the same RM1599 price tag, while further reducing the current pricing of the WH-1000XM3.

Of course, Sony itself has yet to make any official announcement about the WH-1000XM4. Therefore it’s best to treat this news with a grain of salt until then.
