Twitter is testing a new feature that allows users to determine who can reply to their tweets and join in the conversation. The feature is rolling out to a small number of users globally for the time being, said the company in its official blog.
The company added that the decision to introduce this change is meant to prevent harassment and improve conversations. As you can already tell, this new functionality enables Twitter users to limit replies to those following them or vice versa, as well as those who are mentioned in the tweet.
That said, tweets with these settings enabled can still be liked, quoted, retweeted, and shared. Twitter expressed optimism in their blog post regarding this new feature, and encouraged users to use it with creativity in mind.
As mentioned earlier, the new function has been rolled out for testing to a limited group of people on Twitter for iOS, Android, and its website. The company said that it is eager to receive user feedback regarding this as well.
