Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the appeal period for the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) aid has been extended to 31 May 2020. He explained that the decision for the extension was made after taking into consideration the many complaints from those whose applications were rejected for various reasons.
These included submissions with incomplete information, and records of applicants whose income exceeded the eligibility criteria despite recently losing their job and source of income. “Some of the applications were from students who have already received BPN aid in the student category,” he added.
Those who had their BPN application rejected can make their appeal to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) from 11 May onwards. Additionally, the prime minister stated the people can also visit LHDN counters nationwide to make the appeal, apart from applying via e-mail.
“In the states that observe public holiday tomorrow, the applicants can start going to LHDN counters on Tuesday, 12 May,” said Muhyiddin. “I can’t promise that all appeals will be approved, but appeals that are reasonable and meet the requirements, InsyaAllah will be approved.”
