Westworld is easily one of the coolest shows on TV right now? The show is largely set in the future in an exclusive theme park called Westworld, where there are lifelike robots pass for humans called hosts. Guests who visit the theme park are allowed to live out their deepest fantasies (violent adventures, sexual escapades, etc) within the vicinity so long as they don’t harm actual human beings. The Sci-Fi series is created by Jonathan Nolan (that’s Christopher Nolan’s brother) and basically asks the question: what does it mean to be human?
Recently, HBO Asia got the chance to sit down with Vincent Cassel, who plays a villain in Season 3 of Westworld. Interestingly enough, Cassel had been a big fan of the show even before getting the call that he’s been cast in it. He said:
I watched both seasons, so when they called me, I was super excited, because I really liked the show. I’m really proud to be part of it. I always thought it was the sleekest show on air. It’s smart, it’s adult, it’s incredibly well made and produced. It’s a high-quality show.
Cassel also talked a little bit about the third season. When asked what he can divulge about the “system” and the idea of a machine that keeps people in their place, Cassel said:
Well, this machine has the ability to read the future. So when you know what’s going to happen, you just have to change little things here and there and then shit doesn’t happen. That’s the whole idea, it’s just to control any crisis, really, so it doesn’t happen. The main idea of Serac is to get rid of suffering and poverty and inequality and all that, so when you think about it, it’s not a bad idea – it’s just that when you want to impose that on millions of people without them knowing, it’s not possible.
Westworld Season 3 premieres same time as the U.S. every Monday at 9am exclusively on HBO GO and HBO (Astro Ch 411 HD), with a same-day encore on HBO at 10pm.
