Remember yesterday when the Level Up KL Facebook page announced that this year’s event will be postponed? It turns out that the announcement itself was an April Fools joke. The event will go on as planned after all, from the looks of it.
The page replaced yesterday’s announcement post with an announcement of a donation drive. The comments on the post have remained the same though, with some comments expressing doubt over the postponement announcement yesterday.
According to Kakuchopurei, Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, Vice President of Digital Creative Content at MDEC, said “By hook or by crook, Level Up KL is happening”. Which begs a new question: will it still be a physical event? Or will MDEC move it online the way many major events earlier in the year have?
While the Biz side of things will only be affected in ways not immediately obvious to the average consumer, the Play half for the public is unlikely to see the kind of buzz it had last year.
As mentioned earlier, last year’s iteration of the Level Up KL event was a major one. Not only was it open to the public for the first time, it also saw the major announcement of a Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios opening in Malaysia.
