All Ramadan bazaars in Selangor have been cancelled, as announced by Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari on 1 April 2020. The decision follows four districts in the state including Hulu Langat, Petaling, Gombak and Klang. which have been declared red zones due to a high number of Covid-19 cases.
However, Amirudin did not rule out the possibility of the ban to be lifted if the current situation improves. “At this point, we have cancelled the Ramadan bazaars and this matter has been discussed online with the local authority presidents throughout Selangor, but if the Ministry of Health (MOH) says they can be held, then we will hold them,” he said.
As previously reported, Hulu Langat has since been placed under an enhanced movement control order with the district’s border being locked down. Additionally, two areas in Johor as well as Menara City One in Kuala Lumpur also underwent lockdown due to recording a high number of reported COVID-19 cases.
On a separate note, two other states – Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu – announced cancellations of bazaars following the coronavirus outbreak as well.
