I’m a mediocre fan of the Fast & Furious franchise, but I’m tired. I still have some interest in the main saga, maybe, but the spinoff? Completely uninspiring. In my Hobbs & Shaw review I wrote:
As far as emotional weight goes, Hobbs & Shaw is as dry as the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Mad Max: Fury Road. It doesn’t help that Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw just can’t stop cracking jokes, even if they’re right smack in the middle of a life and death situation. If they don’t care that they’re in danger, why should we? Even Captain America exhibits physical and mental vulnerabilities.
So, needless to say, I’m not that excited to watch a sequel. However, Hobbs & Shaw did make more than $US 759 million worldwide. Which means a sequel, we’re going to get. In fact, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has already confirmed it. During a recent Instagram Live Q&A [via Screenrant], the actor confirmed Hobbs & Shaw 2 is in development.
We are developing now the next film, the next [Hobbs & Shaw] movie, and I’m pretty excited about it…Just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we’re going to go.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, especially considering Hobbs & Shaw had not one, not two, not three but four mid-credits scenes. We got some updates on Helen Mirren’s character and we got acquainted with some new ones. Dwayne Johnson previously confirmed that the post-credits scene will give you an idea of the new future team. Could we see the likes of Ryan Reynolds in the next Hobbs & Shaw? Potentially.
