Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) has announced that it will be flying in ventilators and more than 10 million face masks in the following days from Shanghai and Guangzhou, China. This effort is done in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Transport Ministry, and Pharmaniaga Bhd.
“Together with our sister airlines under the Malaysia Aviation Group, we support Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) with dedicated belly space across our domestic and international networks and on MABkargo’s global freighter network for the transport of medical devices and supplies,” said MAB chief executive officer Izham Ismail.
Malaysia Airlines Bhd, along with Firefly and MASwings will be facilitating movement of goods and medical staff domestically across Peninsular Malaysia, as well as East Malaysia. Izham states that the three airlines also have aircrafts on standby at Subang Airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and Kota Kinabalu International Airport to initiate rapid mobilisation of medical staff and professionals in order to support MOH’s efforts nationwide.
MABkargo had also transported sufficient supplies of face masks and personal protection equipment from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu prior to this. Additionally, it also flew in a large number of equipment from Shanghai consisting of face masks and protective suits, courtesy of the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation.
