Silent Hill fans have had quite the roller coaster month. First, there were reports of the new Silent Hill titles getting Sony backing. Then there were rumours of the series possibly getting bought outright by the PlayStation company. But Konami has since denied the rumours, saying that they are false.
Horror enthusiast site Rely on Horror got a statement from a Konami spokesperson that said as much. Specifically, the North American PR rep for the company says that “we’re aware of all the rumours and reports but can confirm that they are not true”. But when asked to address which specific rumour was false, Konami did not respond.
At the same time, the company rep did say that it is not “completely closing the door on the franchise”. Also, Rely on Horror says that the response was from Konami US, while the rumours concern Konami Japan, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio, and Kojima Productions. So it’s possible, even though quite unlikely, that what Konami US says may not reflect the deliberations going on at Konami Japan.
At any rate, it looks like the future of the Silent Hill series will remain uncertain. All the nice rumours we’ve heard have put us on cloud nine. Now seems to be the time for reality to set in once again.
