The Covid-19 Pandemic is crippling Hollywood (and the world, really) as more and more films are getting pushed back. The latest of the bunch is Patty Jenkins’ highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 which was initially scheduled to hit cinemas on the 4th of June. Variety reports that Wonder Woman 1984 has been pushed to 13 August. To avoid competition with its own self, Warner Bros has pushed back the James Wan horror-thriller, Malignant which was slated for a 13 August release.
This of course naturally squashes rumours and speculation that were circling the internet a couple of days ago that the DCEU film would be going straight to digital. Warner Bros Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said the following:
When we greenlit ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theatres on Aug. 14. We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then.
Of course, this delay isn’t surprising whatsoever given the circumstances. Warner Bros is now looking for new dates for In the Heights, Scoob and Malignant.
