The Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Armed Forces will be in charge of keeping crowds near banks and ATMs in check. This is because of the expected crowd near them, with payday around the corner. This will be especially the case with the banks and ATMs having limited their operating times during the Movement Control Order period.
Senior Minister of Defense Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced this earlier today at a press conference. He also reminded everyone to continue practicing precautions against COVID-19, such as social distancing. The police, and if necessary the armed forces, will be called upon to enforce it.
Ismail Sabri also said the police and security personnel of banks will control the number of people entering the premises. On the actual number of people allowed in simultaneously, the senior minister is leaving it up to the banks themselves.
The Malaysian Armed Forces were already called upon to assist the police to help enforce social distancing. Though before, this was primarily done where people buy groceries and other essentials like medical supplies.
