For those of you who don’t follow any of the Star Wars animated series, just know this: Ahsoka Tano is one the coolest, most badass Star Wars character ever created. Ahsoka debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated film that launched an acclaimed animated TV series that ran for six seasons on Cartoon Network. (A Seventh and final season, is set to drop on Disney+ soon.)
Ahsoka was the Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker. However, after Anakin turned to the dark side, Ahsoka set out on a complex journey of her own. Eventually, Ahsoka left the Jedi religion. She’s a fearsome warrior but she isn’t bogged down by the often hypocritical and inconsistent rules of her former religion. Oh, and she also wields two white lightsabers.
Star Wars diehards have been clamouring for Ahsoka Tano to make her live-action debut for ages. Well, it looks like it’s finally happening. We’re still many months away from The Mandalorian season 2 (and that is without counting the recent Coronavirus outbreak that has pretty much put Hollywood and the world on standstill), but Slashfilm reports that Ahsoka Tano will be featured in the season. Not only that, but she will also be played by Rosario Dawson (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Zombieland 2, Trance).
It’s still unclear as of now how big of a role Ahsoka Tano will play in The Mandalorian going forward, but one hopes that she’s given a sizeable amount of screentime. As mentioned, Ahsoka is a fantastic character and Rosario Dawson has tremendous screen presence.
Ahsoka’s debut on The Mandalorian — which is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi — will mark the oldest the character has ever been on screen. She was last seen in the animated series Rebels, set a few years before A New Hope.
