Yes, that title is just as wild to me as it is to you. But it’s true, George Miller, the brilliant mind behind the Mad Max franchise has just gotten the green light to bring his next idea to life. Titled, Three Thousand Years of Longing, the George Miller film will follow (per The Illuminerdi) a “lonely British woman, who has decided to go on a vacation to Istanbul. While there, she accidentally finds a bottle that contains a wish-granting Djinn – giving her the chance to change her life with three wishes. George Miller is set to write and direct the upcoming film.”
So yes, it sounds like Aladdin! Aladdin directed by the dude who brought us all the Mad Max movies. Then again, he also helmed Happy Feet which is a good movie but so not Mad Max. At all. The only confirmed members of the cast are Idris Elba who I believe will play the wish-granting Djinn and Tilda Swinton, who I think will be not-Aladdin. The director also spoke a little bit about the film’s story. Per Deadline:
I see the title of this film as a riddle, and it’s more or less at heart a two-hander, even though it’s way more complex than that. Tilda and Idris are the two characters at the center of this thing. I can’t even decide what genre it is, to be honest. And that’s a good thing. I like to think in these days that to have a chance of people taking notice of what you’re doing, without being overly flamboyant, your film needs to be uniquely familiar.
One thing I can tell you; it’s not [another Fury Road]. It’s a movie that is very strongly visual, but it’s almost the opposite of Fury Road. It’s almost all interior and there’s a lot of conversation in it. There are action scenes, but they are by the by and I guess you could say it’s the anti-Mad Max.
