If you’re a fan of Star Wars, you’re going to love this one! Disney just dropped the first 10 minutes of The Skywalker Legacy documentary on YouTube and it will get your geek juices flowing. The documentary mostly centres around the making of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but it’s a must-watch even if you’re not a fan of the polarising final chapter. Why? Because the documentary also features archival footage from behind the scenes of the original trilogy.
The 10-minute clip of The Skywalker Legacy uploaded on YouTube starts off with footage from the production of Return of the Jedi. We see fans hanging around behind the fence at the outskirts of Tatooine having a chat with the filmmakers and trying to steal glances of the movie. One fan said “By the time all 9 films are done… I’m afraid to see what you guys are going to come up with.” It’s widely publicised that George Lucas had always envisioned 9 films in this saga. I bet that fan in 1982 wouldn’t have predicted that the Star Wars fandom would spend the next 30 years arguing with each other.
Apart from that, we also get to go behind-the-scenes of The Rise of Skywalker and see some candid interviews with the likes of JJ Abrams, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Billy Dee Williams and Oscar Isaac. It’s all really cool stuff.
