Two years ago, it was reported that Apple would be working on making wireless headphones following the success of its AirPods. That ultimately never happened, but it looks like the company hasn’t completely scrapped the plan just yet. Leaked iOS 14 codes suggest that the headphones may appear alongside the official announcement of the upcoming iOS version.
9to5Mac reports that icons representing the Apple wireless headphones have appeared on what is supposedly leaked iOS 14 code. These glyphs are used to represent the headphones throughout the Apple operating system. Two versions of the glyph make an appearance. One shows white headphones with a black background, while the other is grey, with a white background.
On one hand, it’s tempting to think that this will represent two possible colour variants of the headphones. But on the other, it could be the standard and Dark mode versions of the glyph on iOS 14.
Of course, the icons don’t give any hints on what features we can expect from the Apple wireless headphones. That said, 9to5Mac expects them to have features more akin to that of the AirPods Pro than Beats’ headphones.
It’s no real surprise that hints to Apple’s future products are found in code for upcoming iOS versions. The aforementioned AirPods Pro were also first discovered in the code of iOS 13.2 beta. But as for whether Apple will actually announce its wireless headphones following the launch of iOS 14, we’ll have to wait and see if it really turns out that way.
