We previously reported on a new Mortal Kombat animated film, called Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. All we knew back then was that it will be out in the first half of the year. Now, we know that the movie will be released on 12 April 2020.
Alongside the release date, Warner Brothers also released a red-band trailer on the Mortal Kombat YouTube channel. And in it, we see all the glorious gore that the video game series is known for. This latest one also has more emphasis on the titular character Scorpion.
Fans of the series would already be familiar with the story. The Shirai Ryu clan gets massacred by the Lin Kuei clan. Hanzo Hasashi gets killed by the first generation Sub-Zero, before he is turned into the spectre of vengeance before the Mortal Kombat tournament. You get the idea. But there’s something to be said about the animation featuring the X-Ray moves and Fatal Blows from the game.
The violence also reminds me of the Harley Quinn animated series (not the movie, which was nice too). Of course, if the animated film is going to adapt the same kind humour, which the trailer suggests, then expect serious scenes to be turned on their heads with inappropriate language for the atmosphrere.
All that said, it remains to be seen if Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge will be available on our side of the world when it gets released. As mentioned, it becomes available on digital stores starting 12 April, one of which is the Google Play Store.
