Way back in January news broke that Christian Bale was in talks to join Chris Hemsworth in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. At the time, we had no idea what role Christian Bale would be playing, though some of us had an inkling (or was hoping) that he would play a villain. Well, now we’ve got the confirmation. Christian Bale will indeed be playing a villain in the upcoming Thor sequel.
In an ET Now interview, Tessa Thompson who plays the kickass Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe confirmed that Bale will be a villain in the movie. Thompson also mentioned that she has read the script.
Christian Bale is going to play our villain, which is going to be fantastic. I’ve read the script. I can’t tell you much. Lots of exciting text messages exchanged between Natalie and I. We’re going to have fun. Taika is writing [and] directing. Some familiar faces. Some new people coming into the mix.
It’s still unclear which Marvel comics villain Bale will be embodying. In all honesty, though, it doesn’t really matter. After all, when adapting for the big screen, Marvel Studios doesn’t always stick to how the villains are portrayed in the comics. The likes of Zemo and Thanos comes to mind. Regardless of which character it is, I’m sure Taika Waititi will put his own unique twist on it.
And Bale? Well, he’s going to rock hard, isn’t he? Bale is one of the best actors in the world right now and has played many villainous and morally dubious characters in the past (American Psycho, The Prestige, Hostiles).
The film will also see the return of Natalie Portman to the franchise as Jane Foster, who apparently will become THE MIGHTY THOR in this film. Waititi will also be back to provide the voice of Korg, who’s one of the funniest characters in the MCU. It’s still unclear what character Christian Bale is in talks to play. However, I speculate that it could be that of a villain.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit cinemas 4 November 2021.
