Almost four months after launching the Astro Ultra Box, the pay TV service provider is now apparently ready to grow its 4K UHD offerings further. Earlier this week, Astro has announced that it will begin to broadcast the locally produced show in 4K resolution starting with the upcoming Anugerah Meletop Era (AME) 2020 on 12 April.
For those who are not familiar with AME, it is an annual award show that is co-organized by MeleTOP which is a Malay entertainment variety show on Astro Ria, together with one of Astro’s Malay radio station, ERA. AME features several categories across music, film, TV shows, celebrities, and influencers with winners being determined by public voting.
In its announcement, the company also pointed out that AME2020 is likely to become the first local production to be broadcast live in 4K UHD. As for what other Malaysian-made 4K contents that subscribers can expect from Astro next, the company has yet to reveal such info for the time being.
That being said, the Director of Content at Astro, Agnes Rozario has confirmed that the company is also working toward delivering 4K UHD shows via on-demand method. At the moment, Astro’s 4K UHD offerings which are available exclusively through Astro Ultra Box consist of one multi-general channel and two dedicated Astro Best movie channels.
