We haven’t reported on the mess that is Warcraft 3 Reforged, but you’re likely aware what a wreck that was. And it looks like there’s more coming this year, at least according to an Activision Blizzard earnings call.
Dennis Durkin, chief financial officer of Emerging Business at Activision Blizzard, said that the company will bring “several remastered and reimagined” titles from its library of IPs. Which titles exactly will be remasterd, he did not say.
As far as remasters or remakes go, there are plenty of titles that fans would understandably want. Most of them are on the Activision side of the company. Examples include the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, or certain entries of the Call of Duty series like Black Ops.
No doubt, there ware some from Blizzard too that would excite fans if remastered. Diablo 2 immediately comes to mind. That being said, it may not be the best of timing to remake or remaster older Blizzard titles, especially considering the way Warcraft 3 Reforged went.
At any rate, Durkin says that we should expect multiple remakes to be announced and released this year. It does seem too short a window, considering Warcraft 3 Reforged was announced during BlizzCon 2018 and only released on 28 January 2020. Considering the way that game turned out, giving remakes more time would seem like the better thing to do.
