The Fast Saga is apparently coming to a close. Fast & Furious 9 is said to be the first chapter in the final trilogy of the franchise. The last rides of all last rides. And it looks like Fast & Furious 10 will undergo the same treatment as Harry Potter and Twilight — it will be split into two parts. Yes, I’m literally chuckling as I’m writing this. How is this even real?
Alas, in an interview with Total Film, Vin Diesel who’s one of the producers and creative leads of the Fast & Furious franchise talked about his plans for Fast & Furious 10.
I started planning for Fast 10 before we started filming Fast 9. Very much so. The universe is so robust and so rich with talent and rich with story that, on one level, it’s totally feasible to have spinoffs, and I think that’s something that is inevitable. Universal deserves it because of how much they’ve invested in this little saga, and it’d be good to give back to Universal. And for the fans, should Fast 10 parts one and two be the conclusion, it would be nice for this world to continue for generations to come.
So yes, presumably Fast & Furious 10 Part 1 will end in some sort of a cliffhanger.
The end of the main Fast Saga — let’s just call it the ‘family franchise’ — will not be the end of the Fast & Furious movies altogether. Last year saw the release of the franchise’s first spinoff film, Hobbs & Shaw. It received positive reviews from critics and audiences and grossed close to $800 million at the global box office (including $US 10 million) here in Malaysia.
