Last year, Escobar Inc. announced their foldable smartphone debut with the somewhat affordable Pablo Escobar (PE) Fold 1. Just two months after the reveal of the device, the Colombian company has decided to unveil yet another foldable phone aptly named the PE Fold 2.
This time around, Escobar Inc. has set its sights on Samsung as its potential rival. Although ironically enough, their latest device actually shares an almost uncanny resemblance to the Galaxy Fold. One might go as far as categorising the PE Fold 2 as a refurbished “clone” of the Korean brand’s device.
What do we mean by that? Basically, knockoff clones of the Galaxy Fold do exist if you search around the internet for it. They cost a huge fraction of the original’s price, while its performance and durability is questionable at best. Regardless, we do not condone piracy nor do we recommend anyone to pick one of these up just for the sake of owning a Galaxy Fold.
Judging by the official images, the PE Fold 2 does look like a clone device with the exterior casing fully decked out in a metallic gold finish and furnished with Escobar Inc.’s branding. Last but not least, you’ll also get a wallpaper of Pablo Escobar himself filling up both of the phone’s interior screens. Whether you want a picture of a deceased former Colombian drug lord is entirely up to you.
As for the PE Fold 2’s specifications, Escobar Inc.’s website lists out that the phone features a Snapdragon 855 chipset with up to 12GB RAM, and internal storage of up to 512GB. It is powered by a 4,380mAh battery that is chargeable by USB-C, and sports a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The foldable smartphone features a rear triple camera setup consisting of a 12MP main, 12MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide angle. For selfies, it is equipped with a double front facing camera setup which includes a 10MP main and 8MP depth sensor.
I’d go on further detailing the PE Fold 2, but it feels even more like talking about a distant cousin that the Galaxy Fold will never admit of having. For what it’s worth, Escobar Inc.’s second foldable phone is retailing from US399 (~RM1640) and is available to order via the company’s official website – just be wary of some janky marketing if you do visit it.
