Traditional snail mail is not something you get very often these days. That said, it’s still an important service for a lot of businesses. Pos Malaysia as recently announced adjustments to postage rates for them.
Commercial mail will see their stamp rates go up by RM0.70, bringing the new price to RM1.30. Commercial letterboxes will also see their prices adjusted to RM200, which is an RM150 increase. Commercial registered mail, on the other hand, will go up by RM0.90 to RM3.10.
These changes will be effective starting 1 February 2020. Pos Malaysia cites rising operational costs as the reason behind the price adjustment. The company also said in a statement that 95% of its customers were commercial clients. These clients are reported to be supportive of the changes, and that it would have minimal impact on their business.
As for the remaining 5%, these are ordinary individuals who are still sending non-commercial mail, rather than more modern alternatives. For what it’s worth, postage rates for these will remain unaffected, remaining at RM0.60.
