Sony has confirmed that it will indeed be announcing its new range of Xperia smartphone at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona, Spain. The brand had recently sent out official press invitations to its event at MWC 2020, which is set to kick off on 24 February.
In addition, Sony will also be livestreaming its event online for those that aren’t able to attend the event. Beyond the invite, though, there isn’t any further information regarding the kind of Xperia smartphones it will be releasing this year.
That said, the rumour mill is suggesting that Sony may be releasing a plus-sized version of the Xperia 5 and will be aptly named the Xperia 5 Plus. In addition, it’s also believed that the brand will be releasing a new mid-range Xperia device; one that will allegedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 chipset.
Naturally, these are just some of the rumours surrounding the upcoming Xperia. An earlier report suggests that Sony may have finally thrown in the towel and jumped on to the bandwagon for punch hole displays that, as we’ve said before, would be an ironic turn of event. Considering how the brand has been so adamant in keeping its displays on its previous Xperia devices blemish-free.
In any case, we’ll just have to wait until 24 February to find out just what Sony has in store for the Xperia fans this year.
