After publishing a string of teasers earlier this month, TM today has officially launched its new IPTV set top box, the unifi Plus Box. Running on Android TV platform, the new media box brings together a number of new features (finally) to the unifi TV customers.
True to the leak that we’ve seen last year, the unifi Plus Box is designed to deliver not only Full HD content but also 4K content. TM have yet to list down what are the 4K contents that are going to be available through the new unifi Plus Box although we know there’s the Love Nature 4K channel which can be accessed through channel 502.
Other than that, the unifi Plus Box also comes with several pre-installed video streaming apps including iflix, dimsum, BBC Player, YuppTV, and Viu. There is also Fox+ but the service is not yet available at the moment, according to TM.
The access for these apps varies from one service to another as listed below:
Now, back to the most important question of all: how much does this new unifi Plus Box cost to customers? As usual, the answer depends on your unifi TV subscription.
If you already subscribed to any of the unifi TV packs, you able to obtain the new box for additional RM 10 per month. On another hand, you could also switch to the unifi 300Mbps plan with unifi TV Ultimate Pack which comes standard with the unifi Plus box and costs RM 199 per month.
For unifi customers that didn’t subscribe to any unifi TV packs as well as new customers, the unifi Plus Box is available through any unifi Plan that has unifi TV Ultimate Pack. In addition to the 24-month contract period, there is also installation fee of RM 53 but it is being waived as part of the box’s launch promotion.
In general, it is about time for TM to finally offer something new to their unifi TV customers. While we do wish that TM impose slightly easier terms especially for existing customers to obtain the unifi Plus Box, we do want to see how the company is going to take advantage of the box’s enhanced capabilities to make unifi TV more attractive to users.
