External drives have been invaluable devices for users to own when it comes to storing and transferring data thanks to their portability, compact size, and file size capacity. During CES 2020, Western Digital introduced a prototype external SSD by their sub-brand Sandisk with an enormous data capacity of 8TB.
Not only does SanDisk’s prototype drive is capable of holding a large amount of storage, it also boasts SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps interface that can quickly transfer files to and from the device. However, the external SSD is still in its concept stages, and Sandisk has not planned for a retail release just yet.
During the event, Western Digital also showcased the 1TB SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C thumb drive. As implied in the device’s name, it is equipped with an impressive storage capacity of 1TB in its incredibly compact size, and supports both USB-A and USB-C connectivity which allows users to use it with PCs, laptops, gaming consoles, tablets, and smartphones.
Seeing that photos and videos are currently presented in higher quality and resolution which comes in larger file sizes, the introduction of high capacity storage devices such as these will indeed come in handy. Hopefully, Sandisk’s 8TB external SSD will eventually see an actual release within the year or so. The 1TB SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C, on the other hand, is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2020, but its price has not been announced by the company.
