The live images of Samsung’s upcoming clamshell foldable smartphone was initially leaked last month, and most have speculated the phone to be called the Galaxy Fold 2. However, it appears that the company may have revealed its actual name to be the “Galaxy Bloom” during an exclusive meeting for key partners in CES 2020.
According to SamMobile, South Korean news website AjuNews.com was present during the meeting where Samsung CEO DJ Koh allegedly revealed more information regarding the Galaxy Bloom as well as the upcoming flagship phones. AjuNews reported that Koh explained the new foldable was inspired by the silhouette of a compact makeup powder case by French cosmetic giant Lancôme, and that Samsung is marketing the smartphone towards women.
The CEO also told meeting attendees that the name “Bloom” supposedly represents the phone’s unfolding transformation which references a blooming flower. Interestingly enough, the new Samsung foldable phone was also given the codename “Bloom”, according to a previous report by SamMobile.
The report also said that Koh allegedly confirms that the S11 series will be rebranded as the Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra. Another detail revealed during the meeting included 8K video recording capabilities on the Galaxy Bloom and the Galaxy S20 series.
As usual of rumours and hearsays, the information claimed by the Korean website has not been officially confirmed by Samsung, although it’s not uncommon for companies to have closed-door meetings during major events such as CES. Regardless, it’s recommended to wait for an official statement by the company which is expected sometime soon, as the new products have been slated to launch at Samsung’s Unpacked event coming this February.
