There have been many iterations of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus since it was first announced back in 2017. Its latest incarnation, the Zephyrus G15 and G14, was revealed at CES 2020. The latter can also get bonus points in the looks department, but we’ll get to that later.
Let’s go through its specs first, starting with the larger of the two. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 comes with a 15.6-inch Full HD display. You can choose to have this with a 144hz refresh rate, or 240hz refresh rate with Pantone certification.
On the inside, it has an AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS, up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and up to 1TB of M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Interestingly, it also supports USB-C charging.
It’s much the same for the Zephyrus G14, where the innards are concerned. Of course, the screen is different, and more so than just the size. The 14-inch screen gets a choice of 60Hz Full HD, 120Hz Full HD, or WQHD 60Hz. For what it’s worth, all three options are Pantone certified.
As mentioned earlier, the smaller Zephyrus G14 has an optional extra when it comes to visual appeal, and the element that provides it can be found on its lid. ASUS calls it the “AniMe Matrix” which is essentially 1215 tiny LEDs on the lid. You can customise to show GIFs, stills, or just text. You can also make it so that it creates visualisations that react to music or other forms of audio. Later, the option to have it show notifications, battery level, time and date will also be added.
Both the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 and G14 will be available starting Q1 of 2020, but the company did not mention their prices. The same goes to local pricing and availability details. The optional AniMe Matrix for the G14 will also cost a little more, but the company also did not disclose its exact value.
