Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) is finally arriving to Maxis users in 2020. In a statement to SoyaCincau, the telco confirmed the voice service’s launch following a comment on their Zerolution program package which features the highly anticipated Apple Watch Series 5 LTE.
“While the Apple Watch supports VoLTE, voice calls can still be enabled without it. Importantly, with our Apple Watch offering, we are providing Always On connectivity where customers can call, text and access mobile data on the Apple Watch even without their iPhones with them. Meanwhile, we are targeting to launch VoLTE sometime next year,” stated a Maxis spokesperson to the website.
To bring you up to speed, VoLTE is a feature that delivers voice over a carrier’s high-speed data network instead of its voice network, which results in better sound quality during calls. At this time, the service is already available to other local telcos including Digi, Celcom, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile, and Yes.
While we now know that Maxis’ VoLTE will arrive next year, the telco has not disclosed an expected release date for the launch just yet. On the other hand, you can read up more on Maxis’ Apple Watch Series 5 LTE Zerolution offer on their official website.
