Alongside the official announcement of Snapdragon 865 processor, Qualcomm has also roped several partners to join the company on stage at the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019 in Hawaii to talk about the new chip. One such companies is Xiaomi who has revealed that the chip will indeed be featured on its upcoming flagship device.
As revealed by the Bin Lin, the Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Xiaomi, the said device is the new Mi 10 which will be launched some time in Q1 2020. This revelation doesn’t come as a surprise though since previous Xiaomi’s flagship devices have been powered by Snapdragon 8-series chips.
Bin Lin further stated that the Mi 10 will come with a lot of other features too, apart from having the Snapdragon 865 chip. However, he (obviously) not able to reveal those features for now although he does briefly discuss about several innovations that Xiaomi believes will come as we enter the 5G era.
One such innovation is camera experience in which Bin Lin pointed out that the ISP of 5G-era chip would be able to greatly enhance image processing and 5G’s blazing speed would allow users to store as well as share high resolution images with much ease. The company also believes that 5G would enhance consumer’s video experience as well.
Bin Lin then added that Xiaomi also believed 5G would speed up the adaptation of non-traditional form factor that is bigger in size, alongside foldable form factor. Not to forget, the company also confident that 5G will tremendously help the Internet of Things (IoT) segment by having IoT devices connected with the cloud through high-speed connectivity.
The Xiaomi’s exec has also reiterated the company’s plan to launch more than 10 5G smartphones in 2020, which is something that its CEO, Lei Jun has announced back in October. All in all, it is quite clear that Xiaomi has set its course into the 5G era with a very concrete plan and will be taking Qualcomm together on its journey.
