If you’re planning on upgrading your current iPhone but haven’t done so, you may want to hold off on that impulse purchase until next year. A recent rumour is suggesting that Apple may be planning on bundling its 2020 iPhones with a pair of its wireless AirPods.
According to a report by DigiTimes, Apple isn’t the only one planning to do this. Other Android vendors including Samsung and Xiaomi are contemplating the possibility of bundling their respective flagships devices with a pair of True Stereo Wireless (TSW) earbuds. Rather than the standard wired stereo headphones that typically come with all smartphones.
The idea that Apple would consider bundling its future iPhone with a pair of AirPods can be interpreted as an extremely generous, if not extravagant move. The AirPods already sells at a starting price of RM699 for its non-wireless charging variant, while the variant with the wireless charging case retails for a steep RM879.
True wireless earbuds have been steadily gaining traction in the world of TSW audio devices, thanks on no small part to massive improvements made on their battery life, portability, and audio fidelity over the last several years. Not surprising then, that smartphone brands like Apple and Samsung would consider them as the next step in enticing future consumers towards purchasing both their phones and earbuds.
Once again, this news is still just a rumour, so as exciting as it may sound, it’s best to treat it with a healthy dose of scepticism for now.
