Now that Avengers: Endgame is over and done with, the question on everybody’s mind is: Where does the MCU go next? This year, Marvel Studios announced a bunch of films and series that will carry the MCU through to 2022. These films include Black Widow, Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Hawkeye (Disney+ series), The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (Disney+ series) and Shang-Chi, which will centre around an Asian superhero. However, one character completely missing from the slate is Hulk.
After the death of Iron Man and Black Widow and Captain America’s retirement, Hulk, Thor and Hawkeye are the three remaining members of the original Avengers. The latter two have projects coming up, but what about Hulk? Well, it looks like something might be brewing.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Mark Ruffalo said that he had discussed some ideas with Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige:
Kevin Feige just asked me last week if I had any more ideas or stories for the Hulk. And I said yeah, I think there’s still some stories to tell. And he said, ‘Well why don’t you come in and tell me about them and we’ll see if we can find a place for you in the Marvel universe?’
What ideas does Ruffalo have cooking, you wonder?
Hulk vs. Wolverine. I’d like to see that. Hulk vs. Wolverine.
Look, it’s entirely possible that Ruffalo just said ‘Hulk vs. Wolverine’ to get fans giddy with excitement. After all, that’s something most comic book fans are dying to see. While the two characters have crossed paths multiple times in the comics, including in Wolverine’s comic book debut, it wasn’t a possibility in the film world as Wolverine was owned by Fox and Hulk had a shared deal with Universal and Disney. However, with Disney’s acquisition of Fox earlier this year, a Hulk vs Wolverine movie is very much a possibility.
