Square-Enix has shared new details and screenshots for its highly anticipated remake of Final Fantasy VII. The game, which was previously confirmed for an episodic release, will see the release of its first chapter on 3 March of next year.
The first chapter of Final Fantasy VII Remake will take place in the cyberpunk city of Midgar, which will be seeing a massive overhaul in visuals compared to its depiction in the original game. Aside from the city itself, also included in the huge facelift is its various locations, citizens, and familiar faces such as the other AVALANCHE characters.
Tetsuya Nomura, the game’s director and concept designer, stated that players will also encounter new characters, bosses, and locations to add more depth to its story and overall experience. Among the new additions is a new Summon, Final Fantasy’s iconic Chocobo and Moogle, where players can summon this duo for aid them in battle.
Furthermore, new side endeavors and mini games are also introduced in the remake to add more variety of activities that player could encounter. So far, Square-Enix has revealed two of these which include a motorcycle chase scene, and a game of darts in Tifa’s bar, Seventh Heaven.
Aside from these new additions, the Final Fantasy VII Remake has revamped the combat system which now leans towards a more action-oriented and real-time experience. Characters will now have access to new moves, as well as a new method of weapon and materia customisation. For players who wish to re-experience the game’s combat system in a nostalgic manner, the remake also includes a feature for them to enable Classic Mode which brings back the original turn-based system from the original.
Final Fantasy VII Remake will be available on the Sony PlayStation 4 in three versions on its 3 March launch; the standard edition which is priced at US$59.99 (~RM250), the Deluxe Edition at US$79.99 (~RM335), and the 1st Class Edition at US$329.99 (~RM1376).
