LEVEL UP Play 2019 has come to an end, and suffice to say, we’ve seen some eye-opening showcases from product showcases, local game developers, and toys. On that note, it’s safe to also say that no gaming event these days would not be complete without the eSports segment.
At the entrance of the event, we were greeted by our local game developers exhibition booths, starting with Re: Legend and No Straight Roads. Followed by Marvel’s Super War showcase as well as a Sony PlayStation booth. At the No Straight Roads booth, Metromonik revealed one of the game’s antagonist, DK West, who is depicted in a Wayang Kulit inspired style.
At the PlayStation exhibition, Sony had set up a corner to let you try out the upcoming Iron Man VR game prior to its release. Also, a Bridge Baby from Hideo Kojima’s recently launched Death Stranding was on display.
During one of Disney Marvel announcement event, Danny Koo, Marvel Games’ Senior Producer shared some art concepts of the Marvel Future Fight characters including Warriors of the Sky. Also, there is a meet and greet with Danny Koo after the announcement.
As the event went on, there was a flag-off ceremony for our Team Malaysia eSports 2019 SEA Games contingent with Syed Saddiq, the Minister of Youth and Sports. In conjunction with the flag-off, there was also a launch for PUBG Mobile PMCO tournament.
There also a showcase of smaller start-ups game developers including our own local developers. Over there, we get to test out some games with a touch of our Malaysian lifestyle as well.
Moving on, overseas games studios including Bandai Namco and Larian Studios also have its own exhibition as well. Anna Prein, the Producer of Larian Studios also hosted a gaming career workshop about the chaos during the ordering process. Also, Larian Studio has made the announcement to open up a development office in Malaysia at LEVEL UP Biz 2019.
There were also a few tournaments at each corner featuring Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and PUBG Mobile. In details, it features Predator League 2020 Malaysia Qualifiers, Tekken World Tour Dojo and Axis eSports League tournament.
Overall, LEVEL UP Play 2019 is an eye-opener event for anyone who wants to learn more about the game development industry in Malaysia. In any case, we’re definitely looking forward to the next year’s LEVEL UP event.
