The Indian e-commerce giant, Flipkart has obtained the rights to the Nokia brand specifically for the smart TV segment in India. Details are rather scarce for now but based on the press release from the company, it seems that the new Nokia Smart TVs are not being produced directly by Nokia or HMD Global who is responsible for the current lineup of Nokia smartphones and feature phones.
Instead, they are likely to be made by a third-party company chosen by Flipkart as the company stated that it will have a hand in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of those upcoming Nokia-branded smart TVs. However, the company didn’t reveal any specifications for those TVs in its official announcement.
That being said, Flipkart did announce that Harman will be part of its Nokia Smart TV’s effort. Hence, these TVs will feature audio implementation from JBL which is one of the several audio brands under the Samsung’s subsidiary.
From what we can see here, it seems that what Flipkart is doing here is rather similar to the Motorola TV that the company announced back in September. Hence, we doubt that the Nokia Smart TVs will be making their way into Malaysia anytime soon but nevertheless, we’ll keep you posted if there are further updates.
