The rumour regarding a new variant of Apple AirPods that comes with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) has been going around for a while. In fact, a reference to it was found inside the iOS 13.2 Beta files recently but today, it is no longer just a rumour.
Apple today has officially announced the brand-new AirPods Pro which are equipped with ANC as one of their main features. In addition to that, the audio buds also come with a totally new in-ear design which is quite different from the original AirPods.
The ANC feature inside the AirPods Pro was made possible through the usage of two microphones, with one of them is facing outward to detect the external noises. As for the other microphone, it faces inward instead and is designed to detect noises inside the user’s ear. Combined with some software wizardry, the AirPods Pro then pumped in anti-noise to cancel out the unwanted sounds that were detected by these microphones.
Users are able to switch the ANC on and off by pressing and holding the force sensor on the earbud stem which can also be used to control music playback and phone calls. Alternatively, users can also control the feature via their iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
According to Apple, each earbud is equipped with a silicone ear tip that apparently able to adapt to users’ individual ears. The company also stated that it has implemented a vent system into each earbud in order to equalize ear pressure which subsequently would make AirPods Pro much more comfortable to wear.
Aside from that, there’s also another feature on AirPods Pro called Adaptive EQ which dynamically tweaks the low and mid-frequencies of the music based on the user’s ear shape. Just like the second-generation AirPods, the new AirPods Pro are equipped with Apple H1 chip that allows them to support the always-on “Hey Siri” hands-free activation.

With the ANC turned on, Apple stated that the AirPod Pro have a listening time of around four and a half hours as well as three and a half hours for talk time. Their charging case which supports wireless charging as standard, extend the AirPods Pro listening time to more than 24 hours.
Not to forget, the AirPods Pro also has sweat and air resistance rating of IPX4 although this doesn’t apply to their charging case. While they have a general release date of 30 October for selected markets throughout the world, the release date of AirPods Pro in Malaysia is not yet known at the moment although you can check out their Malaysian pricing in our subsequent report.
