Following its promise to release a patch for the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner inside Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10 devices, it seems that Samsung has begun rolling out the said patch in Malaysia. In fact, the patch has made its way into our own Galaxy S10 Plus test unit.

In case you missed the news, it was recently discovered that there is a flaw within the fingerprint scanner on these devices which allows them to be unlocked by anyone when a third party screen cover is applied.

The fingerprint scanner flaw has caused a number of banks in the US and South Korea to disable their app on the Galaxy S10 devices. This didn’t come as shocking though since this flaw can be considered as a major security issue due to risks of unauthorized transactions.

Meanwhile, the update does not seem to involve the whole firmware since it is just a minor 4.2MB sized update on our Galaxy S10 Plus. Furthermore, the update didn’t reboot our phone even though it is noted inside the release note that users should restart the phone after they applied the update.

Samsung has also noted that you should register your fingerprint without a screen cover. However, the update on our unit does not prompt us to register our fingerprint again.
