We previously reported in June that former 16-time WWE/World Heavyweight Champion John Cena had officially joined the cast of Fast & Furious 9, making the ever-growing Fast & Furious family even bigger. Cena previously said, “For nearly 20 years, the Fast Franchise has entertained fans and created some of the biggest cinematic moments in history. It’s an incredible honour to join this franchise and this family.”
Today, a long-time star of the franchise, Vin Diesel shared a video of himself and Cena on Instagram on what appears to be Cena’s last day of filming. In the video, Diesel in his usual slurry tone, talked about how John Cena’s last day is a bittersweet moment for him and the crew and that his costar delivered an incredible performance.
“Week 16, Fast 9 and it truly is as Jordana [Brewster] says a bittersweet moment because someone who’ve I’ve had the great pleasure of working with, John Cena, is finally filming his last day. I have to tell you when you see him in this movie, when you see his character come to life you will be blown away. You are going to be ecstatic about what he’s contributed to this saga. I’m so so so proud of him, I can’t even put it into words.”
Cena’s role in the film has been kept under wraps. We have no idea if he’ll be playing a character akin to Luke Hobbs (Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson) or if he’ll be another one of Dominic Toretto’s rich-in-personality crew members. In the video with Diesel, Cena teases fans without revealing anything.
“I know a lot of you are asking questions: What do you do in the movie? Why are you here? What can you expect? I have many of those answers — but you’re going to have to wait and see.”
Fast & Furious 9 is set to hit theatres 21 May 2020.
