The Google Assistant is pretty easy to activate on Android devices. Some phone makers have also started giving the function a physical button. But the internet search giant is looking to make it even easier – by just lifting your phone.
At least, if your phone is a Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL. 9to5Google reports that the company is working on letting users lift the phone, and immediately either ask a question or issue a command. This gives the devices an additional way to get help from the assistant, in addition to the Active Edge.
The feature will also come with a timer of sorts, so you’ll have to immediately say something if you want the Google Assistant. This makes sure that the assistant doesn’t come online when you don’t actually need it. But if you miss the window, there’s always the “Hey Google” prompt.
The feature, called “Raise to talk”, is still in development. As such, it’s unclear if it will be immediately available when the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL launches.
